More than 50 years ago, God used a small group of people to start a student ministry in a remote college town in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He then grew that ministry into a local church, who called themselves Evangel Baptist Church, because Evangel means “good news” in Greek, pointing to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God has been equipping Evangel to Live the Good News in the Copper Country and Share the Good News with the World ever since, and that ministry continues today by the name of Evangel Community Church.
Please join our celebration of the last 50 years of Evangel’s ministry on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 900 W. Memorial Rd. in Houghton, Michigan. We’ll have one worship service starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by a fellowship meal. We will share photos, videos and more to remember what God has done and give thanks for the faithful people that He has used.
