Levi Matteson - October 24, 2021

Guilt Trip Report

PERPS

Does the Bible really allow slavery? Pastor Levi Matteson kicks off our new sermon series with Paul's letter to Philemon that was delivered by our first perp, Onesimus. Onesimus had a debt to pay Philemon, but he escaped his responsibility. Paul sent him back, and then laid guilt heavily on Philemon to do what's right and release Onesimus. It's confusing by our understanding of chattel slavery, so Levi explains the broader context of indentured servitude in first century Roman culture and how Paul held a small group of Christians to a higher standard.

This podcast episode is from Evangel Community Church, Houghton, Michigan, October 24, 2021.
