The Crazy Cousin Eddies of the Christmas Story

Crazy Christmas Characters

Pastor Travis Williams talks about the shepherds, Crazy Christmas Characters whose lowly status in life made a visit by a host of angels surprising to many — not so much for those who know God's track record of looking at the heart instead of outward appearances, and his repeated faithfulness to comfort those in need. The Scripture text comes from Luke 2:8-20.

This podcast episode is a Sunday message from Evangel Community Church, Houghton, Michigan, December 18, 2022.

Scripture References: Luke 2:8-20

From Series: "Crazy Christmas Characters"

We know the Christmas story well enough to recite it without opening our Bibles. An angel tells Mary she’s pregnant, she and Joseph travel to Bethlehem because there is a census, but there’s no room for them in the inn, so the baby Jesus is born in a stable and laid in a manger. That’s the gist of it, right?

Well, the narrative has become so familiar that we might miss the provocative, surprising, and crazy parts. The story of the first Christmas was unexpected with a cast of unusual characters, unlikely scenarios, and plot twists.
