Levi Matteson - November 27, 2022

Cookies with Crazy Grandma Rahab

Pastor Levi Matteson kicks off our Advent series Crazy Christmas Characters with the story of a surprising character in Jesus's genealogy. The Scripture text is from Matthew 1:1,5, Hebrew 11:31, and Joshua 2.

This podcast episode is a Sunday message from Evangel Community Church, Houghton, Michigan, November 27, 2022.

Scripture References: Matthew 1:1-5, Joshua 2:1-24, Hebrews 11:31

From Series: "Crazy Christmas Characters"

We know the Christmas story well enough to recite it without opening our Bibles. An angel tells Mary she’s pregnant, she and Joseph travel to Bethlehem because there is a census, but there’s no room for them in the inn, so the baby Jesus is born in a stable and laid in a manger. That’s the gist of it, right?

Well, the narrative has become so familiar that we might miss the provocative, surprising, and crazy parts. The story of the first Christmas was unexpected with a cast of unusual characters, unlikely scenarios, and plot twists.
